Research the Vietnam War to better understand the historical context of O'Brien's "The Things They Carried"

Assignment

The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien shows us what it was like to fight in the Vietnam War. The novel relates to the US soldier’s experience during the war, but to get the most out of the stories we need to understand the historical and cultural context in which the war took place. 

Conduct some research on the topic of “the context of the Vietnam War.” You should look specifically at American culture during the 1960s  (the counterculture, the “hippies”, etc), the effect of the Cold War on American military policies, and public opinion on the war as it continued for many years. 

Create an ANNOTATED bibliography with at least THREE - FIVE ENTRIES that will help us better understand the historical and cultural influences on the writer and the novel.
