What is an Annotation?

According to the MLA Handbook (9th Edition), annotations, "describe or evaluate sources or do both. They should not rehash minor details, cite evidence, quote the author, or recount steps in an argument. Annotations are generally written as succinct phrases." (p.226)

Formatting

  • Annotated bibliographies are formatted the same as a Works Cited page, with the addition of the annotation after each entry
  • Times New Roman, size 12 font
  • One inch margins, double-spaced
  • Include an MLA heading (for this assignment)
  • Annotations are indented an inch from each entry, a half inch from the entry's hanging indent.
